BACA Training Day highlights the challenges of Air Cargo
Delegates attending the BACA Air Cargo Training Day found out just what a complicated business Air Cargo can be. The Training Day took place at the Baltic Exchange in London on 19th November 2014 and delivered a wonderful insight into the business of Air Cargo.
A series of presentations on every aspect of Air Cargo highlighted the challenges of shipping cargo by air. Challenges such as; identifying the correct size and shape of the cargo, securing the optimum size of aircraft for that cargo, ensuring the cargo is in the correct place at the right time, obtaining all the export and import permits and making sure the cargo is security cleared, all of this before the aircraft has left the ground. Factor into the equation cargo such as animals and dangerous substances and it became immediately clear to delegates how complex Air Cargo can be. This was crystallised by one of the presenters, Paul Furlonger of Ruslan International, who said “Expect the unexpected, if you have done your planning correctly then everything should fall into place.”
Participants declared that the presentations and content were very informative and useful. Many of the 25 attendees had travelled great distances to be there, including some members from Denmark and Spain. One of them, Dolores Montilla of Europair from Majorca said “I am so pleased to be here, the presentations have been very interesting and extremely helpful in understanding more about air cargo, every aspect has been covered.”
Proceedings were brought to a close by BACA Chairman Tony Coe. He thanked BACA Council Member Emma Wilkinson for organising such an excellent event and expressed his gratitude to the speakers for an outstanding series of presentations.
